Ok. What’s not to love? A molten pot of melted chocolate to dip almost anything in is my idea of romance. Add a fireplace and a dessert wine and some music, well romance novels will be jealous. A partner is elective 🙂
Special equipment needed for this recipe?
You can use a fondue pot or, if you have a rack that has a votive candle in it, you can place the pot on that, or, just serve right in the pot! The chocolate will stay fluid for a while after removing from heat, so no problem there.
Can I make this recipe in advance?
Yes. You can make the chocolate a day or two in advance, then, when ready to serve, just place it over low heat on stovetop and stir it frequently until it liquifies again.
You can also prep your dipping components ahead of time. Arrange on a platter and cover with plastic wrap. If you are adding crispy things like crackers, add them just before serving.
Can this recipe be frozen?
Yes. The ganache, which is the fondue, can be frozen for about 3-4 months. To re-heat, see above.
What to pair with this dish?
For dipping inspiration, you can use orange supremes, bananas, dried apricots, angel food cake cubes, Madeleine cookies, biscotti, strawberries, Mellon, marshmallows, pretzels . . . . sky’s the limit.
Also, if you wish, a lovely dessert wine, aperitif or cordial is also lovely.
